Identify and Nurture Exceptional Needs
Every child has their own unique gifts and talents. In order to qualify for gifted programs, most public schools (and many private schools) require an intelligence test to see if a child meets the school’s criteria under Gifted programming. Gifted testing looks at different areas of thinking, such as verbal and nonverbal reasoning, memory, and processing speed. The evaluation not only determines whether a child meets the school’s standards for gifted placement, but also gives families helpful information about their child’s learning style, strengths, and areas that may need extra support.
The gifted evaluation includes:
A short interview with both parent and child to learn more about school history, learning preferences, and current placement.
An intelligence test. The fee for gifted testing is $600. Palm Beach County has additional requirements, which our office can meet. In some cases, additional requirements may lead to an added cost.
A written report within five business days.
Testing appointments usually take 1 to 2 hours. This allows time for breaks, or a slower pace if needed, so children never feel rushed. We encourage the child/adolescent to get a good night’s sleep and a healthy meal beforehand to help them do their best.
Once testing and the report are complete, the psychologist will review the results with parents and suggest ways to encourage your child’s learning and development. Dr. Guenther aims to identify the supports that best align with your child’s abilities and learning style.
